“Bentley played a video to prove the car was loud and very fast”
British based super-luxury marque Bentley has added a bit of spice to its Continental GT coupe range, raising the power of the engine and sharpening up the car’s handling.
Bentley, owned by Volkswagen of Germany, said this new version of the Continental GT will be called the V8 S, which has a new 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine developing 521 bhp.
“The GT V8 S is a car for our V8 customers who want more. It is more agile, with a lower and uprated suspension, faster, with more power and more distinctive with its signature S styling and a unique V8 S soundtrack,” Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive told a press conference.
Bentley played a video at the reveal to prove that the car was indeed loud and very fast.
Schreiber didn’t reveal the car’s price.
“I am delighted to bring this car to our biggest market for the first time, in this sustained period of growth for the Americas. This region’s strong performance played an important role in making 2013 a record year. With its latest results, Bentley is the world’s most sought after luxury car brand.”
The Continental is available as both a coupe and convertible.
The cars chave a close-ratio ZF 8-speed automatic transmissions. The GT V8 S coupe reaches 60 mph from rest in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 192 mph. The top-of-the-range 12 cylinder version can reach 205 mph.
Bentley sold 2,778 cars in the U.S. in 2013, according to LMC Automotive, its biggest market. China is Bentley’s second market and sold 2,191 vehicles there, according to Bentley.
Global sales rose 19 per cent in 2013 to a record 10,120, with the massive Flying Spur gaining 2,005 new customers.
Bentley is planning a new SUV for sale in 2015.
