SUV’s Gather Pace; Almost 4-1/2 Million By Decade’s End?

Jaguar and Bentley Join The Party.

The SUV boom is accelerating, and many new ones were unveiled at the Frankfurt show which will push annual sales in Western and Central Europe to almost 4.5 million by the end of the decade, according to IHS Automotive Analysis.

VW showed its new Tiguan, which will also be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. VW’s SEAT introduced the Leon Cross Sport. BMW and Kia renewed the X1 and Sportage, while Jaguar and Bentley showed their first SUVs – the F-Pace and Bentayga.

IHS Automotive said SUV sales in Western and Central Europe have grown from just under 1.1 million in 2005 to lust over 2.7 million in 2014. IHS says sales will hit over 4.3 million by the end of 2020.
