“Being a Liberal Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry”

One thing I never understood about Menzies Campbell: how do you get from “Menzies” to “Ming”?

Other things were quite clear, despite the attempt by even the “conservative” media to portray his cowardice and self-seeking stance over Iraq as a reflection of his foreign policy “expertise”.

His position over Iraq amounted to a shrug-of-the-shoulders reluctance to do anything at all about a clear and present danger. Campbell was the kind of politician who would eschew action until the dirty bomb exploded in Trafalgar Square. He would have happily allowed his fellow citizens to fry, while allowing terrorists loose on the streets in the name of their civil liberties.

Campbell, the statesman and foreign policy “expert”, apparently felt it made sense to be against those who would free the Iraqis from the obnoxious, bloodthirsty tyrant Saddam Hussein. Campbell supported those Muslim medieval maniacs who fought against the chance of freedom and democracy for Iraq with merciless homicide bombings of the innocent. So principled; so caring.

Campbell was also at the forefront of those who would happily hand over the governance of our country to anonymous and unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. And now we are being asked to pay tribute to a genuine and upstanding man?

Campbell was really a tax’em ‘till the pips squeak socialist, in a party which sought to face every which way in a craven attempt to win votes. Campbell spent an entire political career being wrong about everything, and even in his senior years, showed no signs of acknowledging this or of having the faintest idea of what his “philosophy” added up to. He was a political poseur like all Liberal Democrats, a party that will never get even close to actually wielding power. Being a Liberal Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry. Good riddance.

After chickening out from actually announcing his own resignation, his reluctant interviews the next day were risible. Suddenly he couldn’t face a bit of snide reporting from the media about his age? How pathetic. After repeating the party mantra over and over in recent months – “I will serve up to and beyond the next election” his action showed that he was indeed a straw man, a gutless politician. Campbell also said he would not be withdrawing his snout from the trough any time soon either, and would not be resigning as an MP.

But who will replace this old fool?

Chris Huhne – Why Did He Lie About The Thames Barrier?

I know nothing of Nick Clegg. But of the likely Liberal Democrat leadership contenders Chris Huhne has form as a barefaced liar. He was recently on a BBC Radio 4 programme on global warming and quite shamelessly and knowingly distorted data about the Thames Barrier to back up a feeble argument attempting to show human involvement in global warming.

Huhne cited some data to show that the Thames Barrier had been lifted many more times over the last 5 years compared with the previous 5 years to protect London from higher tides generated by global warming. The BBC reporter actually took the time out to check. He went down to see the folks at the Thames Barrier and found that this was a barefaced lie, a reversal of the truth. My email to Liberal party headquarters seeking clarification/apology was of course ignored.

It’s not often you can actually trap politicians in a clear lie. They always squirm or claim they were misquoted or misrepresented. But there’s no getting around the misuse of on-the-record data. I suppose Huhne might claim to have made an honest error?

Labour Commissars Will Use NHS To Make You Conform
How much more evidence is required to demonstrate the really evil ramifications for us from a state-controlled health service. The latest news of the 90 plus deaths at the hospital near Maidstone from an NHS-induced bug is the latest evidence that the system has never worked, doesn’t work, and will never work at the health care level.

But there are more sinister dangers.

If utter failure on the health front doesn’t persuade you, try this. The NHS, in the hands of neo-Labour is turning into a fascist instrument of the state. Did you hear “Red” Dawn Primarolo the other day on TV telling the middle classes that they must drink less? This is barefaced cheek from a government presiding over multiple deaths from dirty wards in government hospitals, to say they can micro-manage our alcohol intake.

Ignorant, arrogant, impertinence
It wasn’t only the ignorant, arrogant, impertinence of Primarolo’s words, it was the not-so-implied threat that when the time comes for us middle class oldies to get “help” from the NHS, a neo-Labour commissar will ask us for proof of our weekly alcohol unit rations. If you don’t submit to the drinks regime you won’t get the treatment you’ve paid through the nose for all these years.

The NHS is the last great deceit imposed on Britain, the last great unreformed corrupt state monopoly left over from the disastrous Labour Party welfare state drive of the late 1940s. The NHS only lives on because of Briton’s reluctance to face reality. Socialised medicine doesn’t work. No other civilised country does it. In the name of all that’s rational, take a look at what the French, or the Germans, or the Americans or the Belgians do for God’s sake.

They all have systems which work and stand a chance of delivering world-class health care. All the European systems are insurance based. The only involvement from the state is to insist that all citizens have insurance, and will pay for the poorest to get insured.
