To:The Editor, Sunday Telegraph from:Neil Winton Muslims shamed by Beslan, not Putin Your cartoon showing President Putin with blood on his hands in the current Sunday Telegraph was childish and a travesty of the truth. Your smartypants editorial seeking to show that the Russians could have done more to combat these fanatical Muslims was also ludicrous. How could any government do anything once the maniacs were in place, the chain of explosions had started and these bloodthirsty barbarians had started their merciless action? Your politically correct reporting of the tragedy, along with much of the British media with the BBC in the van, sought to play down the fact that the perpetrators were Muslims. Why do you seek to present an important story with the most salient fact censured - that this was another example of the apparent inexorable march of Islam inspired terrorist thugs? If your cartoonist Trog really believes that the responsibility for this outrage was wasn't down to misguided Muslims, maybe he should find another day job. I expect the editors at the Telegraph to take suitable action. An apology to your affronted readers would be a start. Yours faithfully Neil Winton September 6, 2004 |
