| Geneva Hotels Full Or Too Pricey? Try “Le Bonheur Dans Le Pre” |

| Only 35 Minutes From The Airport In Fabulous Mountain Setting Geneva, Switzerland: When I worked for Reuters, finding accommodation in Geneva for the car show was simple. I picked up the phone and asked the company travel people to fix it up. If they couldn’t find a room, I asked a friendly car manufacturer, and they often would have a convenient room in the centre of town. Sometimes it would even be free. That was then. Now, when I visit the show I spend my own money and it is impossible to stay in Geneva. If you can find a room at all it would simply be too expensive. So I’ve been looking at hotels across the border in the French Province of Haute Savoie, and I came up trumps for my recent visit to the Geneva show. I’ve found a marvellous little place - “Le Bonheur dans le Pre”. The hosts, Christophe Grellier and his wife Barbara, were welcoming and attentive beyond the call of duty. The food was terrific – Christophe studied under Marco Pierre White – the rooms are comfortable, and the prices reasonable. The village of Lucinges is way up in the mountains and the view from my room in the morning across the Vallee Verte, towards Annemasse, was stunning. It is another world compared with the busy streets of Geneva, but it is only about 35 minutes by car from the airport. If you stay at the hotel, I recommend a dish called the Mont d'Or, served with hot cheese on local potatoes, and the smoked ham of Savoie. The local red wine was surprisingly good – try the Mondeuse d'Arbin 2002 Louis Magnin, which costs 17 euros with dinner, or 10 euros retail.
The price of the rooms is between 60 and 110 euros a night. For one week minimum, half-board is 65 euros per day, including dinner and breakfast. |
